Baba Yaga and Vasilisa the Brave

Written by Marianna Mayer and Illustrated by Kinuko Y. Craft

Kind and beautiful Vasilisa lives with her cruel stepmother and stepsisters. When her stepmother wants to get rid of her for good, she sends her on an errand to the witch that lives in the forest, Baba Yaga. Baba Yaga poses impossible tasks for Vasilisa, threatening to eat her if she fails, but Vasilisa prevails with the help of a doll her mother made for her. In the end, cruelty is punished and kindness is rewarded in this Russian fairy tale.
