The Talking Eggs

Written by Robert D. San Souci and Illustrated by Jerry Pinkney

Tim O'Toole and his wife Kathleen are poor and hungry. Kathleen sends Tim out to look for a job and on his way he sees some wee folk, leprechauns. He knows that if a person sees wee folk in the daylight, he can demand their treausre. First he receives a goose that lays golden eggs, but he doesn't follow the wee folks' instructions to go straight home, so he looses it to the greedy McGoons. The same thing happens with a magic table cloth. He goes back to the wee folk for a solution, and they provide one in a big green hat.
